Occupational Therapy Program Director

The Occupational Therapy Program Director will develop and implement the Occupational Therapy program at ACHE. He/she will be responsible for pursuing and maintaining the accreditation process with the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®).  Through his/her effective leadership and management, the Program will graduate competent occupational therapists.  The Director will assure that the quality of the ACHE Occupational Therapy Program will establish a reputation as a quality preparer of occupational therapists.


  • Responsible for leadership and administration of program
  • Develop and manage a program which meets all aspects of ACOTE® accreditation standards
  • Responsible for program assessment, strategic planning, and faculty evaluation
  • Responsible for ensuring integrity of admissions process and confidentiality in compliance with FERPA in cooperation with institutional admissions personnel
  • Coordinate with other campus directors in related programs/departments to maximize the effective use of resources for the benefit of students
  • Recruit, assign duties, evaluate, and professionally develop academic faculty/program staff
  • Develop strong relationships with local and distant fieldwork education training sites
  • Establish relationships with other health care providers in the area to enhance the preparation of Occupational Therapists who serve the needs of the state and region
  • Foster interprofessional education and respect
  • Develop and equitably manage a budget for the program and work within the approved budget
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Entry level occupational therapy degree from an ACOTE® accredited Occupational Therapy Program
  • Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution of higher education recognized by the U. S. Department of Education (USDE)
  • Initially certified occupational therapist who is licensed or will become licensed in Arkansas
  • 8 years of documented experience in the field of Occupational Therapy
  • 2 or more years of experience in an academic-based role, as an assistant/associate program director, academic coordinator or clinical coordinator
  • Demonstrated effective leadership, management and supervisory experience
  • Experience with program review, assessment and program analysis
  • Experience at an academic institution with lines of reporting and accountability.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-6 years of Clinical Experience as a practicing OT
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly research
  • Experience with advising undergraduate students into professional programs
  • Experience managing program budgets within an institution
  • Prior experience with patient simulation using patient care simulators/standardized models
  • Experience supervising faculty and staff in an academic environment
  • Experience with preparation for and participation in at least one ACOTE® site visit
  • Experience developing and implementing curriculum in an OT or related program
  • Experience with strategic planning and implementation within an institution
  • Experience with direct student interaction including teaching, advising and monitoring student progress in the academic and clinical setting

  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office
  • Display professionalism for the college in all communication and interaction
  • Serve as a professional role model for faculty and students
  • Demonstrated scholarly engagement in the profession
  • Possess a working knowledge of educational theory and practice
  • Develop a respectful learning environment with a focus on clinical excellence
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy
  • Ability to prioritize and organize numerous and varied assignments
  • Able to accept, apply and give constructive feedback
  • High-energy, versatile, self-directed
