John Classen served over 29 years at the Fort Smith Police Department and retired at the rank of Sergeant in May 2017.  He spent much of his career as a patrolman and a supervisor in the Patrol Division.  He is a 1988 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.  He retired after over 22 years in the Arkansas Army National Guard and served two deployments during the Persian Gulf War (1990-91) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-04).  He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #39 and has extensive training and experience in Law Enforcement Patrol Operations and Supervision.  Officer Classen and his wife, Jane, live in Charleston, Ar.  They have one adult daughter and a granddaughter.
