Director of Academic Education

The Director of Academic Education, in coordination with the Dean of Physician Assistant Studies School, participates in the effective planning, coordination, delivery and ongoing evaluation of academic courses, goals and competencies. The Director of Academic Education directs and participates with oversight of preclinical curriculum delivery, assures focused attention on student-centered instructional activities, guides preclinical faculty delivery in preclinical instruction, and assists with maintaining the overall well-being of students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSBILITIES

  • Participates and supports in the development, revision, review and effectiveness of the Physician Assistant Studies School mission and curriculum
  • Attends and complies to policy adherence and managing the preclinical curriculum
  • Regularly supervises day-to-day academic operations focused on the PA curriculum
  • Participates in designing, implementing, and coordinating course syllabi
  • Participates in scheduling and coordinating instructional faculty assignments
  • Provides effective guidance applying and determining teaching models and strategies
  • Participates in academic assignments and communicating grades to the Registrar
  • Participates in advising and mentoring students requiring remediation activities
  • Evaluates and delivers academic counseling for enrolled preclinical students
  • Engages in and encourages Interprofessional Education and collaboration initiatives
  • Participates in conducting and writing school/program self-study actions and reports
  • Facilitates advisement, recruitment, and selection of new prospective applicants
  • Attends state and national professional meetings for self-enrichment as assigned
  • Maintains participation in professional faculty improvement as needed/scheduled
  • Provides timely program evaluations and accreditation reports to the Dean as requested
  • Other duties as requested and/or assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related PA field
  • 3 years’ experience as a physician assistant academic educator
  • Current active/unrestricted PA state-licensure or Federal-equivalent certification
  • Current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification
  • PA licensure eligibility in the State of Arkansas

Preferred Qualifications

  • Related doctorate degree (e.g., education, research, medical)
  • 3 years PA clinical practice experience
  • Research, writing, and related experience

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • High-energy, versatile, self-directed
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy
  • Displayed professionalism in all communications and interactions
  • Ability to prioritize and organize numerous and varied assignments
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office
