Biochem/Cellular/Molecular Biology

The Chair of BioChemistry/Cellular/Molecular Biology will be responsible for the planning, directing, and implementation of programs, policies and procedures for the Department that ensures the integration of scientifically based, biomedical sciences, and osteopathic principles and practices for predoctoral and/or postdoctoral students as well as providing service to the college and professional communities and engaging in innovative scholarship and research to advance medical knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (PhD) in Biochemistry, Cellular or Molecular Biology or a related field.
  • Three years (3) academic experience as a full time faculty member at a College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Allopathic Medicine or College of Health or Allied Sciences.
  • Experience as a course coordinator and development of curriculum for Biochemistry, Cellular or Molecular Biology and in teaching these courses to medical and/or allied health students.
  • Demonstrated leadership, productivity and administrative experience with faculty, staff and students in professional, research or educational settings.
  • Possess skills necessary to build, develop, lead and guide a Department of Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology at a new medical school.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (PhD) in Biochemistry, Cellular or Molecular Biology or a related field.
  • Five years (5) academic experience as a full time faculty member at a College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Allopathic Medicine, College of Health or Allied Sciences
  • Excellent leadership and administrative skills, a demonstrated record of faculty mentorship, and experience in medical and/or graduate education.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of courses of instruction in Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology and demonstrated excellence in delivering course content to medical students.
  • Experience in team-based learning approaches to instruction.
  • Previous experience as a Chair or Assistant Chair of a Biochemistry, Cellular or Molecular Biology Department.
  • Demonstrated leadership and productivity in areas of professional service, scholarly activity, medical research or education.

 

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the delivery of medical education in Biochemistry, Cellular or Molecular Biology to the classroom.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of varied curriculum templates and educational formats related to the delivery of Biochemistry, Cellular or Molecular Biology course content to medical students.
  • Demonstrate ability to mentor and motivate students and peers.
  • Demonstrate a depth of knowledge in one or more of the medical, psychological, or social disciplines required for the education of medical students, the practice of medicine, the advancement of medical knowledge and research.
