Dr Gustafson is a native of California and received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. He earned a Master’s of Biomedical Science in Pharmacology and then attended medical school at Oral Roberts University School of Medicine. At graduation, he received the top student award for the departments of Biochemistry, Anatomy, Pharmacology and Pediatrics. He was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society. He served an internship in Internal Medicine at Providence Medical Center, Portland, OR. His neurology residency was served at Oregon Health Science University and then joined the faculty at OHSU as part of the Neuroimmunology service. He moved to the private practice of neurology in Kentucky for many years and then to Fort Smith and the River Valley where he has practiced hospital and clinic neurology for nine years. He has served as Chief of Medicine at his hospitals in both Kentucky and Arkansas.

He is board certified in Neurology. He has received additional board certifications in Neuroimaging and Neurosonology. He began serving on the faculty of ARCOM in the department of Clinical Medicine in the spring of 2017. His clinical practice is currently located at Cooper Clinic, PA, Fort Smith, AR.

Dr Gustafson and his wife make their home in Fort Smith. They have three children, who are now raising their own families, and four grandchildren. He is active in community vocal groups. He sings tenor with the Fort Smith Chorale and the Goddard UMC Chancel Choir. He has recently returned to community theater and will be playing and singing the role of Albert Lennox in the Fort Smith Little Theater’s musical production “The Secret Garden” summer of 2017. He always opens with e4 when he plays White and despite an exciting and open style, he frequently loses his chess games.
